Cycling is a healthy and fun way to explore the region. Your safety is important to us and we urge you to read and follow the safety recommendations below.
- Obey the Australian road rules at all times
- Cycle on the left hand side of the road
- Negotiate roundabouts in a clockwise direction
- Cycle in single file along busy roads
- 2 abreast is permitted on quieter stretches
- Maintain your cycling line when motor traffic is about
- Wear an approved safety helmet and make sure it is fitted correctly
- Wear bright clothing - to make you more visible to drivers
- Wear sunglasses - to protect the eyes form dust, insects and bright sunlight
- Please do not ride our bikes after dark - they are not equipped for it
- Give hand signals when turning, changing lanes or stopping
- Adults must not cycle on footpaths unless accompanying a child under the age of 12 years
- Children under the age of 10 years should not ride on the road
- Ride positively and decisively and stay alert
- Think ahead and try to anticipate driver and pedestrian actions
- At intersections - even if you have right of way - catch the drivers eye whenever possible
- If crossing a busy road, get off and walk across - look to the right, left & right again
- Make sure you take plenty of water with you when you ride
- If you want to have a drink, check a map or answer your phone, stop cycling and get off your bike first
- When stopping for a break, choose a safe spot and move well away from the road carriage way
- Be cautious on gravel/stone surfaces - do not brake or turn suddenly
- Cycling on sand is almost impossible - get off and walk if necessary
