Cycling is a healthy and fun way to explore the region. Your safety is important to us and we urge you to read and follow the safety recommendations below.

  • Obey the Australian road rules at all times
  • Cycle on the left hand side of the road
  • Negotiate roundabouts in a clockwise direction
  • Cycle in single file along busy roads
  • 2 abreast is permitted on quieter stretches
  • Maintain your cycling line when motor traffic is about
  • Wear an approved safety helmet and make sure it is fitted correctly
  • Wear bright clothing - to make you more visible to drivers
  • Wear sunglasses - to protect the eyes form dust, insects and bright sunlight
  • Please do not ride our bikes after dark - they are not equipped for it
  • Give hand signals when turning, changing lanes or stopping
  • Adults must not cycle on footpaths unless accompanying a child under the age of 12 years
  • Children under the age of 10 years should not ride on the road
  • Ride positively and decisively and stay alert
  • Think ahead and try to anticipate driver and pedestrian actions
  • At intersections - even if you have right of way - catch the drivers eye whenever possible
  • If crossing a busy road, get off and walk across - look to the right, left & right again
  • Make sure you take plenty of water with you when you ride
  • If you want to have a drink, check a map or answer your phone, stop cycling and get off your bike first
  • When stopping for a break, choose a safe spot and move well away from the road carriage way
  • Be cautious on gravel/stone surfaces - do not brake or turn suddenly
  • Cycling on sand is almost impossible - get off and walk if necessary
